Common questions

Why is the rate different from last month? Many areas have seasonal lodging rates, and new GSA rates start every 1 October with the federal fiscal year. Each night uses its own month and fiscal year.

Why only 75% of M&IE on the first and last day? The Federal Travel Regulation pays 75% of the M&IE rate on the day you leave and the day you return (41 CFR 301-11.20).

Lunch was provided at my conference. Say so: the lunch amount from the official M&IE breakdown is deducted for that day, even on a 75% day, but you always keep the incidentals amount. Airline meals and free hotel breakfasts are not deducted.

My town is not listed. Places outside the listed non-standard areas get the standard CONUS rate. Give the ZIP code or county to be sure.

Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico? Covered: those rates are set by the Department of Defense and taken from its per diem bulletins in the Federal Register. The DTMO lookup remains the authoritative current source.
